Richard Fantus, MD
Assistant Professor of Urology
University of Kansas Medical Center
Dr. Richard 'Jake' Fantus is a urologist specializing in men's health. A Chicagoland native, he trained at Baylor College of Medicine, the University of Chicago, and Northwestern University. He is an EPIC physician builder who leverages his past programming knowledge to optimize clinical workflows and research using the electronic medical records.
Ilya Sobol, MD
Assistant Professor of Urology
Eastern Virginia Medical Center
Dr. Sobol completed his training at the Mayo Clinic in advanced EndoUrology and serves on the board of directors for Urology of Virginia. His research focuses on AI integration in healthcare, PCR in stone disease, and clinical pathways development.
Donald Neff, MD
Associate Professor of Urology
University of Kansas Medical Center
Dr. Neff specializes in developing innovative solutions using local Large Language Models. As director of the international urological surgery rotation, he combines clinical expertise with AI research to advance global healthcare.
Our Mission
Synaptic-IQ is a physician-led technology company reimagining the future of healthcare through the transformative power of artificial intelligence. At our core, we are builders, clinicians, and scientists driven by a shared mission: to harness the capabilities of AI to unlock the full potential of medical knowledge, improve clinical decision-making, and deliver more personalized, efficient, and impactful care. We are not just applying AI to healthcare—we are engineering intelligent systems that work alongside clinicians, drawing on deep domain expertise and cutting-edge machine learning to solve real-world challenges.
The foundation of Synaptic-IQ lies in our belief that medicine is rich with untapped knowledge—much of it locked away in the minds of experienced physicians or buried in vast volumes of literature, data, and institutional practices. Our technology aims to bridge this gap by creating tools that extract, organize, and deliver this latent wisdom in real time. Using advanced natural language processing (NLP), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, and large language models (LLMs), we are building AI systems that are not only intelligent, but clinically meaningful.
Our flagship initiatives include the development of a "Virtual Attending"—an AI-powered assistant designed to support medical education and decision-making by synthesizing insights from expert urologists, clinical guidelines, and case-based reasoning. By integrating AI into the workflows of physicians and trainees, we are creating systems that can respond to complex questions, summarize relevant knowledge, and provide guidance in moments that matter most. What sets Synaptic-IQ apart is the convergence of clinical insight and technical excellence—our products are shaped by those who understand healthcare from the inside out.
Beyond education, we are actively developing platforms that support evidence-based medicine, enable real-time decision support, and enhance longitudinal care through personalized analytics. We are focusing first on specialties like urology, where we have deep expertise, and are building scalable, generalizable systems that can extend across the healthcare spectrum. We are adapting as medical science evolves and as user feedback informs refinement. Each interaction is a step toward smarter, safer, and more human-centered care.
We also place a premium on ethics, privacy, and trust. In a field as sensitive and high-stakes as medicine, we recognize the immense responsibility that comes with building AI tools. Our systems are developed to meet rigorous standards of transparency, security, and regulatory compliance, including HIPAA and other healthcare-specific frameworks. We are committed to developing explainable AI that supports—not replaces—human judgment.
At Synaptic-IQ, we are energized by what's possible. We see a future where clinicians are empowered by intelligent systems, where patients benefit from faster and more accurate care, and where the complexity of medicine is made more navigable through technology. We are not content with incremental change. We are here to lead a paradigm shift—where knowledge becomes more accessible, insight becomes more actionable, and AI becomes a trusted partner in the care journey.
We invite collaborators, clinicians, researchers, and institutions to join us as we build this future—together.
